Rising food prices are also starting to affect the cost of school lunches. Cafeterias have raised their prices by an average of 30% since the beginning of the year, making it increasingly difficult for parents to afford school lunches for their children. This is where the WOMEN FOR WOMEN: Lunches for Children project, founded in 2013, comes to the aid of such families.
“Last year, we supported 9,500 students, while this year, it’s 12,500. Nearly 3,000 students have been added from March to May, which is unusual because most students typically already have paid school lunches until the end of the school year,” said Ivana Tykac, founder of the non-profit organization WOMEN FOR WOMEN, in an interview for Studio 6 – CT24.
